Abel said it during trying times — a string of seven straight games without a victory. But he felt he had indications of good strength, especially with the addition of defenseman Kent Douglas whom he obtained from the Oakland Seals after nearly seven months of negotiating. Douglas, Abel feels, is the experienced, mean defenseman the Wings need and, he can fire a puck with the best of the point men which Douglas promptly affirmed with two goals and two assists in his first four games.
