Stratton Hottest Point Man For Expansion Club

PITTSBURGH, Pa.- Art Stratton always was a slow starter and perhaps that, more than anything else, kept him out of the National Hockey League for so long. Even in the early part of this season he was finding it difficult to impress his bosses on the Pittsburgh Penguins. But within the last month, the 32-year-old Stratton has blossomed into one of the team’s scoring leaders. It couldn’t have happened at a better time, either, as Stratton has been one of the few Penguins not detered by an otherwise team slump. “I don’t know why I’ve always been a slow starter,” Stratton says. “I know I’m in the best physical shape I could be in. THE ONCE TRANQUIL hockey scene in Montreal is being shaken to its foundation these days both at the player and coaching level. The Canadiens, off to one of their poorest starts is more than a decade, are finding that losing often brings on frayed tempers. Coach Toe Blake blew his top at Referee Bill Friday in a recent Boston game and was ejected. Blake is also wrangling with the Montreal press, who have been questioning his player moves. Even veteran Goalie Lorne Worsley got in on the act this past week when he fumed over being lifted from the Montreal net. Gump promptly threw his stick and gloves as he approached the bench. There are recurring rumors that the Habs will unload some of their aging stars. Defenseman J.C. Tremblay…
