Jack Butterfield Still Working For AHL-WHL Merger

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — A peek into the official family of the Springfield Kings hockey team is in order. Club president is the West Coast dynamo Jack Kent Cooke. The Kings are advertised as a division of California Sports Association. Cooke bought the local team from Eddie Shore. John Wilson serves as general manager-coach of the team. A former NHL great, he was hockey coach last season at Princeton University. Charles Hill serves as publicity director. He also does “color work’’ on radio and TV of the Kings’ games. Which brings us to Bill Rasmussen, the play-byplay man for the team. He is sports director of Channel 22 here, which carries the Kings’ telecasts. In addition, Rasmussen has done U. of Mass, athletic games. Station WSPR carries radio accounts of games. Shore remains in the picture,…

NEW FACES LIFT PENGUINS AS INJURIES RIDDLE CLUB

PITTSBURGH. Pa. – Experience In the National Hockey League wars figured to make Pittsburgh’s veteran loaded Penguins an early season power in the new Western Division. But the rapid development of three relative youngsters is now being credited with saving the Penguins from a potentional disaster. Injuries to defensemen Noel Price and Dick Mattlussi and center Earl Ingarfield has forced Penguins Coach Red Sullivan to rely on three substitutes whose total previous NHL experience came to six gemes. But Dune McCallum and Bill Speer on defense and Paul Andrea up front have given Sullivan no reason for alarm. McCallum and Speer, in fact, are playing so well that Price, now recovered from an injured knee, has been unable to win his regular job back. “I have been very satisfied with McCallum and Speer,” Sullivan…
