PORTLAND, Ore. - An all-time Western Hockey League record could topple in the early going this season. AHL Sets Up Record Pool For Playoffs
ROCHESTER, N.Y.- American Hockey League players will be shooting for a playoff pool totaling a record $128,000 when the 1967-68 season opens October 11th. Based on regular season finish and success in the Calder Cup playdowns, the $128,000 is the 'highest ever Established in the AHL's history. Players of the six competing clubs split $114,000 a year ago. The playoff format utilized the past six seasons will be retained in the '67-68 campaign, but, in line with merger plans between the American and Western leagues, an AHL-WHL playoff proposal is being submitted to the respective circuits for final approval. Tentative plans would see the playoff champion in each league meeting in a best of seven series to determine an overall victor. If such a series is adopted an additional pool will be created further…

Coach Frank Mathers, with four forward lines in training camp, continues to juggle the personnel in an effort to ice the strongest…
Hockey Ad Lib
NHL May Be Embarrassed Last season, the National Hockey League celebrated its Golden Anniversary. This season, entering a new era, it has given birth to a six-team sister circuit, the expansion loophen-ceforth to be known as the Western Division, which the people in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh think is pretty funny. Since each of the “Western” teams must play 24 games with “Eastern” teams as well as 50 with its nearer relatives, it is not impossible that the pennant-winner will finish under.500. How far would one go to celebrate capturing a flag with more defeats than victories Perhaps the over joyed hometown would hold a parade… marching backwards. The delighted players would drink and squirt one another with soft drink, instead of champagne. And then the happy owner would throw them in…
