Philly Flyers Aid Knoxville To Rebuild With Young Skaters

KNOXVILLE. Tenn.— The Knoxville Knights, fortified with some help from the hew P hila delphi a Flyers of the National Hockey League, will go with a youth movement this season in an effort to boost their status in the Eastern Hockey League race. New pilot Pat Egan, former skipper of the Jacksonville team in the Southern Division, said eight new faces had been supplied the Knights by the Flyers and there's a possibility they may get additional help during the season. The Flyers evidently are going to split their assistance between the Jersey Devils and the Knights. Egan said the top performers of the sextet are goalie Roland Gilbert a 5-10 175-pounder from Quebec City, and defenseman Claude Rondeau, a175-pounder also from Quebec City. Toledo Signs Deal With Kings Of NHL

TOLEDO. O. - Jack Kent Cooke may have outdone himself to a certain extent this time. The controversial California sportsman who owns the Los Angeles Kings of the new National Hockey League expansion division, the L.A. Lakers of the National Basketball Association, the L.A. Wolves of the United Soccer League and the Springfield Kings of the American Hockey League, not to mention part interest in Seattle of the American Hockey League and the Washington Redskins of the National Football League, now has a piece of the action in Toledo. Maple Leafs Win Exhibition Title

TORONTO, Ont. - Toronto Maple Leafs may be ready to kick the ancient myth that they are perennial slow starters in the National Hockey League. Leafs, who won the cup last season after tail spinning in the early weeks of the schedule—they lost ten in a row at one stage—emerged as the 'giants' of the National Hockey League exhibition season. Punch Imlach's time-trodden hockey warriors came through their 11-game pre-season exhibition schedule against NHL teams with seven wins and a tie for 15 points, well ahead of any of the other 11 big league teams.
