MONTREAL, Que.- Like the National Hockey League, THE HOCKEY NEWS is undertaking an expansion program for the 1967-68 season. Ken McKenzie, publisher of THE HOCKEY NEWS, recently disclosed that his hockey publication had opened a new office in Chicago. In an effort to be ready to meet the needs of an anticipated growth in circulation and advertising brought about by the addition of six new cities to the NHL, THE HOCKEY NEWS decided to locate at 333 North Michigan Ave., in Chicago to take care of increased business in the United States. Headquarters of THE HOCKEY NEWS, however, will continue to be in Montreal at 1434 St. Catherine Street West, Montreal 2, Canada. Heading up the United States venture will be Jack Leonard, a well-known advertising and marketing man in the midwestern U.S.…

Blazers Too Powerful For Knights On Home Ice

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.- Oklahoma City Blazers took possession of the J.J. “Jack” Adams Cup for the second straight season when they edged Omaha Knights, 3-2 in the fifth game of their best-of-seven series to capture the set, 4-1, and the Central Professional Hockey League playoff championship. The Knights won their lone game of the series, 4-3, on their home ice at the Ak-Sar-Ben Coliseum in overtime after dropping a 3-2 decision, also in extra time on the same ice. After the first two games of the series that attracted 7,112 fans, the Knights were forced to play the remaining games at Oklahoma City's Fairgrounds Coliseum with Ice Follies taking over the AkSar-Ben Coliseum ice. Defense Key To Toledo's Turner Cup Win As Slater Completes Rugs To Riches Climb

TOLEDO, O. — Defense was the big factor that carried the Toledo Blades to victory in the Turner Cup playoffs of the International Hockey League. They first swept through league season champion Dayton Gems in four straight and then edged Fort Wayne's Komets in four out of six. And in the ten games they held the opposition to a total of 23 goals for an average of 2.3 goals per game. The Blades' greatest achievement in this respect was in subduing the Gems, who were the IHL top offensive team with an average of 4.37 per game. They managed only a 2.25 average against the Blades, who confined the Komets to a 2.33 goals against in their six-games series. AHL, WHL Again Talking Of Merger For Next Year

NEW YORK, N.Y.— The American Hockey League and Western Hockey League are talking merger again. Both top minor league circuits are bracing themselves for the coming of NHL expansion and the possibility of a one-league 12 team operation is being tossed around once more. Representatives of the AHL met recently in this city and amalgamation of the two circuits was one of the major topics of discussion. AHL publicity chief Jack Button said, “No positive action was taken during the one-day meeting of the league's board of governors, but we should have a definite answer shortly one way or the other in regard to plans for next season.” The two leagues had a partial interlocking schedule in 1965-66.
