18-Year Pro Larry Wilson Hopes To Keep Playing After Big Season
BUFFALO, N.Y.— Larry Wilson has been muttering about retiring for three or four years, and it looks as though he’ll go on muttering for two or three more. At 36, Wilson, in his 18th season as a professional and his 12th with the Bisons, leads the club with 26 goals. He has had an extremely fine second half, when he should have been tapering off. In addition, he’s playing the best defensive hockey of his career. As a youngster, Wilson left the checking to others. “The home-run hitters and the guys who score goals get the big money, and I guess maybe I did overlook the checking part,” Wilson said. “Now, I enjoy it. Kitchener Wraps Up First Pennant Since Moving Into OHA Junior Play
KITCHENER. Ont.— Kitchener Rangers are the 1966-67 Ontario Hockey Association Junior A pennant winners. The Rangers clinched first place in the Ontario Junior A League for the first time in the city’s history with one week remaining in the schedule. And they did it convincingly. With a crowd of 5,215 watching, the Rangers trounced Peterborough Petes 9-2 for their 27th win of the season. It gave them a six-point margin over second place Toronto Marlboros and both teams had only two games remaining to play. The Rangers couldn’t have chosen a better team to play against in its deciding victory. The Petes won the Junior A League title a year ago but this season are still struggling in eighth place, trying to earn one of the eight playoff positions.
