Gulls’ Fred Hilts Wanderer—But Scorer, Too

SAN DIEGO, Calif.— Fred Hilts is a slender 27-year-old left-winger who has bounced around in his nine years as a pro. He has played for eight teams in four leagues, but never for a team in the big leagues. Three times he has played for two different teams in two different leagues in the same season. Under the circumstances, it is amazing Hilts knows where to sleep each night, much less where the goal is. But he does know where the goal is. The 5-11, 165-pounder has scored 29, 32, 39 and 45 goals in various minor-league campaigns. He shifted from Pittsburgh of the American League to Memphis of the Central League to start last season, scored eight goals in 25 games, then was transferred to Portland of the Western League, where…

Bobby Hull Fires Most NHL Shots

MONTREAL, Que.— Who shoots the puck the most in the National Hockey League? You guessed it. Bobby Hull of the Black Hawks. Hull, as he has done for the last few seasons, again took the most shots on goal. In 46 games, he fired 218 times at enemy nets. His percentage of 15.6 is the highest of his career, including last season when he scored 54 goals on 352 shots.
