Eastern, Western Races Heading For Showdown As NCAA Finals Near
TROY, N.Y— With the post-season college tournaments just around the corner, Boston University and Cornell—coached by Ned Harkness—continue their commanding lead in the eastern race while out west North Dakota and Michigan are locked in a tight race for the McNaughton Cup. The eastern championships are set for March 9 and 11 in Boston Garden. Western colleges will playoff on March 7 and 9 with two final games scheduled on March 11 at the home sites of the first round winners. The eastern champion is an automatic selection to the NCAA Championships in Syracuse, N.Y. on March 17-19. The other eastern entry and the two western participants will be picked by regional Selection Committees. No Immediate Expansion Seen For Loop
FORT WAYNE, Ind.— On the occasion of the International Hock ey League’s All-Star game and mid-season meeting in Muskegon, there was some talk of possible league expan sion and some reports had it that the loop was practically ready to take in at least one of three cities that were mentioned. Subsequent investigation, however, revealed that the expansion business was in very much of a nebulous stage and what had been reported in some quarters as formal application for membership were merely “feelers”. Cities which had shown interest were Cincinnati, Duluth and South Bend. There may be some further discussion along this line when the league holds its annual meeting May 25-28 in Colorado Springs.
