OHA Team Race Best Balanced In Years
ST. CATHARINES, Ont.— Whether you look at the league standings or the scores of individual games, it’s easy to sec that the Ontario Hockey Association junior A group is the best-balanced in years. Last week 10 games were played in the nine—team group and exactly half of them resulted in ties. Another was decided by one goal and two others by two counters. The only decisive score was registered by Montreal Canadiens who came back from a 5-2 setback in Oshawa Saturday night to blank the defending Ontario champions 6-0 the following evening in the Montreal Forum. Oshawa and London tied 2-2 earlier in the week, Toronto Marl—boros and Peterborough drew 6-6, the Petes and St. Catharines tied 4-4 and Niagara Falls Flyers were involved in stalemates, 5-5 with Peterborough and 4-4 in Kitchener. Ullman’s Penalty Shot Goal Pre-Arranged Plan
DETROIT, Mich.— Norm Ullman blew his big chance. Ullman could’ve become the Babe Ruth of hockey lore the night referee Art Skov award-him a penalty shot against the Chicago Black Hawks. Almost as soon as Skov signaled for the penalty shot, Hawk goalie Denis DeJordy doubled over as if in pain and skated to the Chicago bench. “I think they’re going to put the other guy in,” Red Wing coach Sid Abel told Ullman who’d skated over to the Detroit bench. “If they do, I’m going to try and shoot it low and between his legs,” Ullman said. And he did and he scored. But he didn’t make a grand gesture to the crowd, point his stick at the gap between Glenn Hall’s legs as his intended target area the way the Babe pointed to the bleachers…

Guelphites Pulling For Homebrew Frank Scopel To Make NHL
GUELPH, Ont— If an operator of one of the new NHL franchises could build a team around goalkeeper Bruce Gamble, defensemen Harry Howell and Bob Plager and forwards Eddie Shack, Jean Ratelie, Andy Bathgate, Rod Gilbert, Ron Murphy, Ron Stewart and Dean Prentice, he wouldn’t have to worry too much about the luck of the draft. This isn’t exactly an allstar team, but with the addition of a half dozen journeymen NHLers, they’d hold their own in any company. This group of players have two things in common. They all play now in the National Hockey League, except Plager, and at one time, they all played junior hockey in Guelph. This might lead the casual observer to come to the conclusion that Guelph is a hot-bed of hockey talent. Unfortunately, “It ain’t necessarily…
