As the National Hockey League schedule reaches the halfway mark a fellow named Bobby Hull continues to ease his way upwards in the individual scoring race. This past week, the Black Hawks’ Golden Jet scored four times to raise his season total to 19 in 28 games, leaving him one goal off the pace set by Rangers’ Rod Gilbert, who leads with 20. Hull has started to gain momentum and appears recovered from the back miseries that plagued him through the Hawks’ first 25 games. A healthy Hull could mean the difference between finishing first and ending second again for Chicago. Hull is well behind his record-year pace of last season when he scored 54 times, but strangely he is ahead of 1961-62 when he scored 50 times. That season he had 13…

Bruin Chattel, Schmitz Set To Play More

BUFFALO, N.Y.—Norm Schmitz is a 23-year-old defenseman who figures to get a lot more work with the hockey Bisons over the second half of the season than he did over the first half. In his third term as a pro, and his first with the Bruins, Schmitz came here on loan from the Boston Bruins during the training period. Two years ago, he played one game with Cleveland and 68 with Omaha in the Central Pro League, and last year he was with the champion Oklahoma in the CPHL.
