Rugged Ken Hodge Has Makeup To Become Hawk “Policeman”

CHICAGO, Ill.— Kenny Hodge has all the equipment, and the disposition, to become the Black Hawks No. 1 policeman. This was pretty well proven recently when he took on Reggie Fleming, the Rangers’ resident badman, in a post-game brawl on the ice and more than held his own. But Black Hawks Coach Billy Reay is hoping that Hodge will be able to avoid making his size and natural belligerence his only marketable commodity as a National Hockey Leaguer. “I’d hate to think that Ken will have to rely strictly on ruggedness to get by in this league when he has so much else going for him,” said Reay. Home Ice Proves Magic As Mar lies Grab Lead

ST. CATHARINES, Ont.— For most hockey teams, particularly those in the junior series, there’s just nothing like playing on home ice. They may pick up the odd victory in enemy territory but it’s in the snug surroundings of their own rink with the fans bellowing their support that they usually excel. Last week for instance London Nationals defeated Montreal Can-adiens 8-5, Peterborough downed Niagara Falls 7-4, Toronto Marlboros edged Kitchener Rangers 3-2 and even the Oshawa Generals, who have been hard pressed to pick up points anywhere this season, salvaged a 6-6 draw with the Marlboros. All those winning teams and the Generals were on home ice as they added points to their league record.
