Orr’s Junior Coach Feels Bobby Best Playing Defense
OSHAWA, Ont. Where should the Boston Bruins play rookie Bobby Orr when they get him up to the NHL — defense or forward ? A man with definite ideas on the matter is Orr’s current coach with the Oshawa Generals, Bep Guidolin. A former NHL star with Boston, Detroit and Chicago, Guidolin is entrusted with developing Orr this season and he makes no qualms about what he thinks of the youngster. “Orr will be an asset to the NHL,” said Guidolin, ‘but I’ll tell you one thing. He’ll be great if he’s used on defense and nowhere else.” Guidolin thinks Orr will rate with the good ones when he jumps to the pros. “Bobby’s a field general out there, like a Doug Harvey or a Jacques Laperriere. He should be played at the blueline. Up…

IN THE CORRIDOR
THE HOCKEY NEWS this week asked Western League broadcasters: Is hockey the most difficult game to call ? DICK ENBERG, KTLA - TV, Los Angeles: Yes. Action is so fast and continuous you have to do a radiocast even on TV. Goals are so few that if you describe anything but what is happening to the puck and miss a goal, your effort is ruined. And you can’t use a color man because you wind up stepping on each other’s words. Basketball is the easiest. There are plenty of time-outs in which you can make comments. GIL STRATTON: KNX and KCBS-TV, L.A.: It’s the easiest for me because I like it the best. It’s the only sport in which I get emotionally involved. I don’t get emotional about horse-racing because I don’t…
Jeffrey Connects For Two Goals As Rochester Ousts Aces In Six
TORONTO, Ont. Rochester Americans won their way into the Calder Cup final playoffs for the second successive year and they did it by again knocking over the Quebec Aces. Paced by Larry Jeffrey’s two goals, the Americans defeated the Aces 6-3 to win the best-of-seven semifinal series 4-2 in games and set up a Cleveland-Rochester Calder Cup final. Jeffrey, a defensive star this season who had scored only 10 times all year, added his third and fourth goals of the series to help out the Aces. Bronco Horvath, Jim Pappin, Darryl Sly and Mike Walton got the other Rochester goals. Leon Rochefort tallied twice and Ed Hoekstra once for the vanquished Aces. Americans struck at 3:38 of the opening period. Jeffrey fired a rebound past Quebec goalie Gary Bauman. The second goal, at 17:29,…
