Spokane Win Capped Big WIHL Year

SPOKANE, Wash. The Spokane Jets captured the Western International Hockey League championship title this month at the finish of the regular playing season that showed hockey fans throughout the league plenty of tough and strongly competitive action. In the 1965-66 season, the W.I.H.L. roster was composed of six teams, five from British Columbia and one American team. The teams, in the order of their standing at the end of the season, were — the Spokane Jets, Nelson Maple Leafs, Kimberley Dynamiters, Rossland Warriors, Trail Smoke Eaters and the Cranbrook Royals. In the semi-final playoffs that followed, first-place Spokane faced the fourth-place Rossland team and second-place Nelson battled Kimberley, who had come in third. In this best-of-seven series, Spokane defeated Rossland four games to one and Kimberley beat Nelson, four games to two. With the…
