St. Louis Group Buys Rink To Land Franchise In NHL
ST. LOUIS, Mo. Sidney Saloman Jr. has purchased the St. Louis Arena for $4 million to pave the way for a National Hockey League franchise for St. Louis. The insurance agent said the purchase was made on the condition that the NHL franchise would be finally granted. The deal was worked out with Arthur M. Wirtz who is an owner of the arena and of the Chicago Black Hawks in the National League. Salomon said Wirtz had communicated the closing of the deal for his group to League President Clarence Campbell, who outlined the Salomon group will have to appear with $500,000 “irrevocable letter of credit” at the April 5 meeting of the Board of Governors in New York. The Governors will hear the St. Louis case and make its decision. Campbell said the board…
Best Rink Assured for Philly
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Bill Putnam, head of the new Philadelphia hockey team, is leaving no stone unturned in his quest for the finest sports arena in the nation. He was advised as to the essentials for his new arena which will house the NHL team for the 1967-68 campaign. Nine IHL Point Men To Hit 100 MarkMaxfield s Flags Plunge Into Nosedive
FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Last season only five players in the International Hockey League were able to score 100 or more points. This season, with the schedule drawing to a close, it appeared that nine players would be in the century bracket. Six had already made it. Including games through March 6 the 100-point scorers were Guy Trottier and Bob Bailey of Dayton. Bob Rivard and Merv Dubchak of Fort Wayne, Bill LeCaine of Port Huron and Gary Schall of Muskegon. Almost certain to reach the plateau in remaining games were Bryan McLay of Muskegon, Len Thomson and Johnny Goodwin of Fort Wayne. This was only one of several IHL offensive records certain to fall. Dubchak and Schall had already broken the season’s goal scaring mark of 63 and were heading towards 70. Muskegon…
