Veteran Lorne Worsley Enjoying Second NHL Career With Habs

MONTREAL, Que. Officially, the second career of Gump Worsley began on June 4, 1963, when he was traded to Montreal after ten unforgettable seasons as goalie for the N. Y. Rangers. When he first heard the news of that trade, Worsley thought it was a gag. A friend had phoned him at his home in Beloeil. Quebec, to relay the glad tidings and Worsley simply didn’t believe him. The prospect of playing for Canadiens, after a decade in the Rangers’ cage, was a bit too much to encompass. It wasn’t until he got official confirmation from the Canadiens’ front office that the Gumper actually believed he was a member of the Habs, and his reaction to it was hard to figure. He didn’t appear to be enthused … at least, not outwardly.…
