Black Hawk Jinx’ Puzzles Wings’ Abel
DETROIT, Mich. What is it about the Chicago Black Hawks that brings out the worst in the Red Wings? Sid Abel wishes he knew, just as Boston Bruin coach Milt Schmidt wonders how he can beat Chicago and have so little success with Detroit. At one stage during the season the Wing-Hawk games were comparatively close with superb goaltending by Glenn Hall the difference. Lately the Hawks have had almost no trouble with the Wings, even using rookie Dave Dryden in goal in two starts at Olympia and winning both handily, 4-1 and 5-1. If this keeps up I’ll have to bring my tailor.”…

‘Big M’ Top Leafs’ Scorer
TORONTO, Ont.— When Frank Mahovlich scored in the second period of a National Hockey League game against Boston Bruins Jan. 29, he was not aware he had become Toronto Maple Leaf’s all-time highest scorer. The goal was the leftwinger’s 242nd and surpassed Harvey (Busher) Jackson’s career total of 241. Andy Bathgate (302) and Dickie Moore (256), both former Leafs, and current player Red Kelly (264) have scored more goals but they have spent most of their hockey careers with other teams. Bathgate played with New York Rangers, Moore with Montreal Canadiens and Kelly with Detroit Red Wings.…
