NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. The nine-team Ontario Hockey Association junior A league could be accurately described this season as a promoter’s dream. With more than one-quarter of the 216-game schedule completed the clubs are packed tighter than fans at the CNE Stadium on Grey Cup day. For a time it appeared as if the defending Memorial Cup champion Niagara Falls Flyers might make a shambles of the group. They failed to lose a game in their first 13 starts, winning 11 and playing two ties. Stan Mikita Proving ‘Hottest’ Thing On Ice

CHICAGO, Ill. Three-goal performances in a National Hockey League are somewhat rare according to league history but Stan Mikita posted two of them last weekend and in successive nights, too. The brilliant Chicago centre, who is the NHL’s point scoring champion for the past two years, turned out to be the hottest player of the week as he shot a ‘hat trick’ in both games as the Hawks lowered the boom on Boston 10-1 and the Rangers 6-2. Mikita’s three-goal blasts pushed him to the top of the individual NHL race with 29 points as he removed Bobby Rousseau, the leader the last few weeks, from first place.
