Nomad McCarthy May Be At End Of Travels
CLEVELAND, Ohio Tall Tom McCarthy, who has kicked around the hockey scene in five different leagues for the past 10 years and now is with his 14th club, is a nomad who just may have pitched his tent for keeps with the Cleveland Barons. The 6’2” 195-pounder, who operates from the left wing position and temporarily is teaming with Ron Attwell and Howie Glover on the Barons’ first line, never has played long enough in one place to get to know his neighbors. McCarthy’s longest tenure of service with one club was with Portland of the Western Hockey League, with whom he spent the 1962-63 and 196364 seasons. The tall winger comes to the Barons through the courtesy of the Montreal Canadiens, who had him at Tulsa of the Central Hockey League last season.…

The Player Of The Week
Big league hockey fans haven’t heard too much about young Doug Robinson since he came into the NHL but the betting is that they will be quite familiar with this dynamic left winger in the near future. Robinson, who is only 24, has jumped into the lead among the scorers on the New York Rangers with five points in three games and his play has been scintillating for the Blues. Acquired from the Chicago Black Hawks last year in a multiple player trade, Robinson is rapidly making his mark with the Rangers. Combining on a line with newcomer Gary Peters and fiery…

Irwin Changes Togs As Reds Run Ended
PROVIDENCE, R. I. Ivan Irwin, chilly coach of the Rhode Island Reds, finally has changed out of a favorite summer business suit into warmer winter toggery. The Reds’ coach started the season by wearing a light, summer suit to the Reds’ opening game on Oct. 15th. It wasn’t out of place, for weather in Providence was unseasonably warm for October. The Reds won that one, defeating the Rochester Americans, 3-2, in overtime. Two nights later he wore it again, and though a bit chillier, he managed to hang on while the Roosters rolled to another extrasession triumph, by the same score, 3-2, over nersney. Now Irwin, the former great defenseman of the Reds, is not known to be overly superstitious, but he just couldn’t resist keeping things status quo a bit longer. “After all,” he…
