N.Y. Rangers Expecting Keen Camp

NEW YORK, N.Y.— The New York Rangers are rubbing their palms these days in anticipation of the opening camp. The club brass can’t wait for the impending battle that is shaping up among to centers and goalkeepers. “It’s up the middle where we’ll have the most competition at training camp,” said general manager Emile Francis. The Rangers start workouts Sept. 20 in Kingston, Ont. “The most interesting battle should be in goal but we’ll have quite a fight for centre ice, too,” added Francis. Rangers expect 34 players to report at Kingston. Four are netminders and nine centres. Francis said there will be plenty of new faces in camp this season. 17 players are new to the Rangers, the result of 31 deals made by Francis since May. Burke Selected To Direct Blues Promotion Job

NEW YORK. N.Y. Philip J. Burke of Teaneck, New Jersey, has been named director of promotion and public relations by the New York Rangers, it was announced by Emile Francis, the club’s general manager. A 1957 graduate of Fordham University, Burke took over his new post September 1st. For the past five years, he has served as director of sports information at Columbia University. “In a city the size of New York, there are so many things to be done in the field of promotion and public relations that we found it necessary to create this new position,” Francis said. “We’re certainly fortunate to have obtained Phil’s services. Vet Mazur Purchased By Clippers

BALTIMORE, MD.— Ed Mazur, veteran left winger with over 15 years of outstanding pro hockey service, has been purchased by the Baltimore Clippers from the Toronto Maple Leafs organization. One of the bigger forwards in the game at 6 feet 2 and weighing 190 pounds, Mazur has a long list of hockey credits that began with Dallas in 1949 and brought up to date last winter with a full season in the Western Hockey League with the Victoria Leafs. This past winter, Mazur played in 62 games and scored 46 points on 16 goals and 30 assists. However, most of his career has been spent in the American League and he is familiar to Clipper fans when with the Providence Reds in 1963 and ‘64.
