Long Island Ponders Move To St. Petersburg
—NEW YORK. N.Y. To the surprise of most observers, there was no expansion emanating from the annual meeting of the Eastern Hockey League here. However, there is still a chance for movement in the 11-team circuit. The expected bids of Syracuse, Philadelphia and Salem (Va.), didn’t materialize although the door is not actually closed on them. A team still could be admitted into the loop when the EHL magnates convene again July 1-2 in Pittsburgh. Two other teams could make some switches. One is Long Island and the other is New York. Long Island was given permission to make a deal with St. Petersburg, Fla., to move its franchise. Hawks’ Ace Leading Money Player Winner
MONTREAL, Que.— Based on the award money he received from the National Hockey League this season and the 39 goals he scored in the regular schedule, Bobby Hull’s goals were worth $200 each to him. The Chicago Black Hawk left winger led all individuals in total award money received from the league. He collected $750 as his share for Chicago’s third-place finish; $2,500 as a member of the Stanley Cup finalists; $1,500 in All-Star awards; and $3,000 as winner of the Hart Trophy and Lady Byng Trophy. His total $7,750 in award money boosted his career total from the league to $27,050 in seven seasons in the NHL. He did not collect any bonus money from the NHL in 1957-58, his first season.
