Portland Compiled Best Record Both On Road And Playing Home

SEATTLE, Wash.— At the conclusion of the regular season, pennant-winning Portland’s 13-point margin over runnerup Seattle was accounted for by its 10-4-0 mark against Seattle, including the last eight in a row…It was the best record in the league for one team against any other team…Los Angeles of all teams, ended Portland’s nine-game all-March winning streak, but Portland wound up with 11 wins out of 13 games the final month, finishing two wins short of the WHL record of 44 wins and five points short of the WHL record of 94 and one win and three points short of its own team marks. Portland had the best home record, 25-7-3. and best away record, 17-16-2 in the league, and set a league record by going undefeated in a dozen overtimes 7-0-5. The…

Clippers Open Cup Playoffs Without Aldo Guidolin

BALTIMORE, Md.— The Baltimore Clippers were forced to sail into the Calder Cup play-offs without the services of defensive ace Aldo Guidolin. The former American League All Star became a casualty in the final minutes of the final game of the regular league season. The scene was Rochester’s War Memorial arena. There was Guidolin, his Clipper team leading 5-4 and driving for second place in the final standings of the Eastern Division. Beside him was Rochester’s Bronco Horvath, who was going for the AHL’s leading scorer honors. As they tangled along the boards, it was obvious that something would have to give. In this case, it was Guidolin’s hand. During the melee with Horvath, Guidolin re-dislocated the fingers of his hand. Aldo left the ice knowing he’d never be able to play against Hershey in…
