Provost Credits More Shooting For Success

MONTREAL, Que. Before this hockey season is over, someone is bound to write that Claude Provost has been the “surprise package” of Canadiens, this year. The term won’t be misplaced if it’s applied to Provost, either. For, the craggy-faced veteran of 10 NHL seasons was indeed come up with an unusual scoring punch, this season. With less than a dozen games to play, Provost already had 25 goals and 32 assists, and was by far Habs’ top producer. Further, he’d been the team’s leading scorer almost without interruption through the length of the present campaign. All this is surprising enough when you consider that Claude’s reputation in this league has been built mainly on his defensive ability. Bisons Fye Cup Playoffs May Recall Johns, Caron

BUFFALO, N. Y. The undermanned Buffalo Bisons were looking forward to the playoffs, and possible player help, as the American Hockey League schedule moved into its final weeks. After operating with only 14 men—two under the AHL limit—for almost all of the regular schedule, the Bisons, a solid second in the Western Division behind the powerful Rochester Americans, hoped to acquire a goalie, a defenseman and at least one forward for the Calder Cup classic. Ed Chadwick, purchased during the off-season from Hershey, was a major factor in the Bisons’ strong showing. However, a pair of pulled hamstring muscles were bothering him, and Chad was hoping he might get a short rest before the playoffs opened.
