Montreal Kid Teams Hit With TV League
MONTREAL, Que.— Hockey belongs to the kids for the next seven days across Canada. The Canadian Amateur Hockey Association estimates that some 500,000 youngsters are registered in the Dominion and has set aside Jan. 23-30 as ‘Minor Hockey Week’ in Canada for the sprouts. It’s a week where the parents are urged to bring their boys to the rink and watch them play. Minor hockey in Canada is constantly on the upswing and one such group that is making giant strides in the kids’ game is the Montreal Minor Hockey series that is sponsored and televised weekly by CFCF-TV Channel 12 in the Canadian metropolis. Every Wednesday night when the home games of the Montreal Canadiens are telecast across the country, CFCF-TV Producer-Director Ralph Mellanby views the game from a CFCF Mobile Studio outside the…

But, what was even more curious was the pattern of scoring that John has been following. It has been a case of long famines,…

Fielding Averages Give Goalies’ ‘True Look’
(This is the first in an exclusive weekly series of features dealing with statistics on NHL netminders compiled for THE HOCKEY NEWS). MONTREAL, Que.— Fans who yearn for a change in the method of determining the Vezina Trophy most often point to ‘fielding’ averages rather than goals against as the ideal method of selecting the National Hockey League’s best goaler. The arguments, as they stand at present, are that the present system caters to the club with the strongest defense and makes the trophy a team award, which contradicts itself by being handed to an individual. However, that’s the way it is written in the rules for the award—going to the man playing the most games with the team allowing the fewest goals. Those crying for change, pointing out that men like Eddie Johnston…
