Milt’s Line Shifts Pay Off In Bruin Scoring Splurge

BOSTON. Mass. You can’t stand pat with a losing lineup, so Bruins Coach Milt Schmidt, more in desperation than anything else, made some radical front line alignments, and danged if they haven’t panned out. “I’m going to try some new combinations,” said Schmidt before a game against Montreal, “but first I want to have a talk with the GM.” After Schmidt’s confab with General Manager Lynn Patrick, Schmidt unveiled the following units: Tom Williams, shifting from right wing to centre, play-making for a line with rookie Wayne Maxner on left wing and Dean Prentice, of all people, on right wing. Ab McDonald, a left wing, shifting—like Prentice—to right with rookie Bill Knibbs at centre and Reginald Fleming on left wing. Gamble Nets 291st Goal-Eyes All-Time Scoring Spot

ROCHESTER. N. Y. A gamble may be a risk in Webster’s big word book, but a Gamble is a sure thing in Crozier’s book. Crozier of course is Joe Crozier, the Rochester Americans’ general manager and coach, while his subject is Dick Gamble, veteran American Hockey League left winger who once again is pumping goals past enemy goaltender with spectacular frequency. Despite a slow start (for him it was a slow start, for other hockey players it wouldn’t be) of 7 goals in the first 20 games, Gamble has climbed back into the thick of the race for American Hockey League goal-getting honors.
