Rivers Impresses As Bruin Fill-In
BOSTON, Mass.— Wayne Rivers will stay with the Bruins until some of the club’s wounded can skate back into action. • Centre Murray Oliver, sidelined by pulled knee ligaments in Montreal two weeks ago, may be available for spot duty. Oliver has been skating and was expected back in the lineup soon. With Tommy Williams idled for 10 days at least by a pulled back muscle, Rivers will play right wing on the line with Ron Schock and Johnny Bucyk. This was the Bruins’ best line in New York with Rivers, of course, getting a goal. “Rivers played very well,” lauded Coach Milt Schmidt. “With any luck he could have had two or three goals.”…

Buckaroos Hot In League Race, Box Office
PORTLAND, Ore. Everyone around the Western Hockey League complains about coach Hal Laycoe’s brand of conservative, close - checking defensive hockey, but it gets results which seem to please Portland’s fans. They have led the WHL in attendance in each of the four seasons Portland has been a member. And it impresses Buckaroo rivals, who usually tab Portland the team to beat. However, Portland has not always lived up to this ranking. In 1961, the Bucks finished second in a one-division league and won the playoffs. In 1962 and 1963, they won divisional titles, but blew the playoffs. Last season, back in a one-division league, they finished second, again blew the playoffs.
