Through With Hockey for Good Says Reardon
MONTREAL, Que. — Kenny Reardon, who came to Canadiens in 1940 as a raw’teenager and wound up as a polished executive, has ended h i s career with the club. The 43-year-old Irishman announced his resignation as vice-president of Canadiens on May 8. so ending a near quarter-century service with the Montreal organization. His career covered every facet from untried rookie to allstar defenseman, to front-office personality. A native of Winnipeg. Manitoba, Reardon played junior hockey in the West, and at the age of 18 was invited to try out with Canadiens. He caught on. and made the jump from junior to N.H.L. with no stops between — a highly unusual feat for a defenseman. DOLBEAU, Que. Alain (Boom, Boom) Caron I is a young man who knows what he wants. A hockey ca-reer in the National Hockey League. The powerfully – built left winger of the St. Louis Braves of the Central Pro Hockey League, said here in his home town that if he doesn’t make the NHL next season he will quit the game. ’’It is this year or never,"said the prolific scaring Caron, who collected a fantastic 77 goals in 72 games for the Braves in the CPHL this past season and who has counted 138 in a two-year pro career. Rangers To Hunt Defensive Strength In Draft With Eve On Boivin, Doualas
NEW YORK, N.Y. — The New York Rangers can be expected to dig into the NHL grab-bag of hockey players at the annual draft meetings with more than the usual dose of enthusiasm. Woefully weak on defense, the Blueshirts would like to grab Jean-Guy Talbot of the Habs or Ted Harris, the American League’s top defenseman, but the Canadiens reportedly will protect both in the draft. Still thinking defense, the Rangers likely will resume talks with the Boston Bruins, presumably to obtain Leo Boivin or another Bruin backliner of quality. “We’ve got a defenseman or two we can’t use,” said Bruin coach Milt Schmidt. “We’re going to sit down with a few people and talk a little trade.” Talk has it that Schmidt will want Ranger left wing Vic Hadfield in any deal for Boivin.…

MONTREAL, Que.— The Mont-real Canadiens, oldest club in professional hockey, are now being guided by the youngest executive panel in the NHL. In a spate of front office changes, the Montreal organization: Named David Molson, 35. as president of Le Club de Hockey Canadien and its parent organization, the Canadian Arena Company. Appointed Sammy Pollock, 38, as general manager of the hockey club. Awarded Maurice “Rocket” Richard. 42, a new position as assistant to the president of the hockey club. Nominated Frank Selke, Jr., 34. to the position of vice-president, sales and publicity, of the Canadian Arena Company; and installed Howard Hamilton, the former comptroller, as vice-president — finance and administration — of the arena company.
