Playoff Game Mark Set By Fashoway
PORTLAND, Ore.— Portland’s Gord Fashoway set a new Western Hockey League record when he participated in his 84th Western Hockey League game. Fashoway had shared the record for most playoff games played in the league with Bob Bergeron who played with the now defunct New Westminster Royals. Fash celebrated the occasion in typical Fashoway fashion—by scoring the winning goal in the Buckaroos first playoff game. Edmonton’s Sid Finney added to his record of most playoff goals when he fired his 37th in his ninth time participating in post-season playoffs. Fashoway follows close behind Finney in this department as he has fired 35 goals while he participates in his 11th season of playoff hockey in the Western League. Finney scored a goal and three assists in 3 games against Seattle to maintain his point-a-game…
Boomer Will Play With Any Club If Canadiens Put Him On The Block
MONTREAL, Que.— While Managing Director Frank Selke and other members of Canadiens’ front office were taking in the Stanley Cup finals, nothing new came out of the Forum about the Habs’ plans for next season. Coach Toe Blake took a holiday, probably to ponder his thought of retiring, while awaiting a post-season meeting with Selke and Senator Hartland Mol-son, president of the club. Nevertheless rumors flew thick and fast about one veteran of the Canadiens right-winger Bernard (Boom Boom) Geoffrion, just one of several disappointing performers in the semi-final playoffs. The grapevine had it that the Boomer, a 50-goal scorer three years ago who slumped to 23 goals last season and again this past schedule, was on the trading block. And every other NHL club was interested. Boston Bruins were reported most likely to land…

’New’ Barons Provided Punch To Get Team Into Playoffs
CLEVELAND, Ohio— It took a number of pleasant surprises to help boost the Cleveland Barons into the American Hockey League’s Calder Cup playoffs. Among them were the outstanding scoring records of two rockies and the substantial scoring efforts of two other new comers to the AHL. At season’s end, unofficial scoring records show center Bill (Bat) Masterton as the circuit’s seventh best scorer, with 82 points, topped only by such established pointgetters as Bill Sweeney, Hank Ciesla, Willie Marshall, Art Stratton, Bruce Cline and Keke Mortson. Down the list just a few names is Fred Hilts, whose 70 points were far more than was expected of him prior to the season’s opening. While they were not as high in the scoring lists, Joe Szura and Wayne Boddy also made significant contributions to the Barons’ cause. Masterton,…
