Vic Lynn Handed Second Ban In Bid To End Rough Play; Boucher Battles CAHA Again

SASKATOON, Sask.— Vic Lynn, playing-coach of Saskatoon Quakers, leaders in the Saskatchewan Senior Hockey League, hasn’t been seeing too much action—either at the helm or on the ice—since his club returned from an overseas tour. The former National Leaguer has received his second suspension within three weeks, this time a five-game slap following a third-period, alley way mixup between Quakers and Moose Jaw PlaMors in Saskatoon. Quakers’ first game back following a six-week tour of three European countries resulted in Lynn and coach Vic Myles of PlaMors each drawing two-game suspensions for a fracas in Moose Jaw. League president Don McCullough has had a busy month with suspensions as he attempts to curtail the rough stuff throughout the five-team league. On the ice, Quakers have again asserted themselves as the class of the league, and…

Seattle’s Veteran Guyle Fielder Posts 1,000th Point In WHL Play

VANCOUVER, B.C.— Ancient Guyle Fielder has more aches than most hockey players have goals but it isn’t stopping the old Seattle ‘warhorse’ from setting Western Hockey League records. The 32-year-old Fielder helped the Totems to a 6-4 victory over the Vancouver Canucks the night of Jan. 29 and in so doing chalked up three assists to push his all-time WHL point total past the 1,000 mark. Fielder and his Seattle linemates, Jumbo Jim Powers and Bob Barlow, are still keeping the Totems in the thick of the title race. They counted three goals in the game, two in 11 seconds with Fielder’s guiding hand instrumental in all three scores. Fielder is the WHL’s top playmaker and despite his advanced years, he is among the loop’s top five pointmakers.…

Ill-Fated Blades Happily Bid Farewell To South; What Next? Snow Cancels Mississippi Exibition

NEW HAVEN, Conn.— If the New Haven Blades don’t go below the Mason-Dixon line again, there’s no one on the club who will be unhappy from coach Wally Kullman on down. Earlier in the year, the Blades were the victims of the ill-fated bus accident In Tennessee. This time, their last venture of the year, New Haven had a running dispute with refeeree Ted Daily. In one game goalie Gastan Des-sureault was ejected by Daily after a squabble with a Greensboro linesman. There is some question about who threw the first punch but Dessureault says the linesman did. The linesman was silent. This rhubarb resulted when Dessureault thought an offside calls was missed. When Dessureault left, trainer Bev Brown of Greensboro went into the Blades cage and a romp resulted with three hat…

Maniago Ported To Carry On In Vezina Trophy Rate

“you like 7up 7up likes you” MONTREAL Que.— Jacques Plante, who last week lost his Vezina Trophy lead to Chicago’s Glenn Hall, may have to rely on his under study to take it back again in the next few games. Following the Canadiens’ recent loss to Toronto — when the Leafs pumped six goals past the veteran netminder — it was decided that Cesare Maniago would be called up from Hull-Ottawa to replace Plante. The decision to use Maniago for at least two weekend games was made after Plante had a talk with Coach Toe Blake about his work which saw the opposition score 17 goals against the Habs in five games. “Plante has been complaining about his hip lately,” said Blake. “He couldn’t practice last week and wasn’t sharp against the Leafs so I…
