Maniago Optioned To Hull - Ottawa

OTTAWA, Ont.— Cesare Maniago, the much travelled netminder, was on the move again last week and this time he was optioned to HullOttawa Canadiens of the Eastern Pro Hockey League. It was the first trip to the EPHL this season for Maniago, who played here last year in 68 games and was the loop’s top goalkeeper. Maniago this season had been standing by for Jacques Plante of the Canadiens at Montreal but saw service in only 11 games. The Habs were concerned because he was losing his sharpness sitting idle week in and week out and decided to send him here for regular service. Maniago replaces Ernie Wakely, who will assume Maniago’s role at Montreal. The EPHL team said that Wakely was in need of a rest and for this reason, the change…

Bathgate, Rocket Hold First Chat, The Night He Broke Richards Mark

NEW YORK, N.Y.— Eloquent Andy Bathgate, the man who broke Maurice Richard’s and Bernie Geoffrion’s record for consecutive goal scoring, says he has no intentions of matching their mark of 50 goals in a season. “If I thought about scoring 50,” said Bathgate, “I’d hurt the team. I’d rather get 35 goals and let Dean (Prentice) and Earl (Ingarfield) get a lot more on my passes.” Bathgate outdid Richard and Geoffrion on the night of January 5th when he i pumped two goals past Jacques Plante at the Montreal Forum. The Rangers tied Canadiens 2-2. i It made it 10 consecutive games in which Bathgate scored a goal or more. The decisive goal was a slap shot from 40 feet out and to the right of the cage. It zipped; through eight inches of…
