Injury Jinx Still Hounding Habs’ Ace Bernie Geoffrion In Midst Of Big NHL Season
MONTREAL, Que.— Bernard Geoffrion and Tom Johnson gave Toe Blake and the Canadiens quite a scare last week after the Habs lost a hard-fought 2-1 game to the Leafs at Toronto. The veteran right-winger, who appears to be in for a high-scoring season, and Johnson who has I been one of the team’s steadiest defensem’an to date, suffered wrist injuries that threatened to keep them out of action for several games. Johnson was hurt in the first period when he banged into the side protection glass but played until the third period when he gave up his spot to Jean Gauthier. The Boomer had to be helped from the ice after scoring his 11th goal of the season. He banged into Johnny Bower as the Toronto goalie came out in an attempt to check…

AHL Reds Seek “independence”, Tie Up With Galt
Lou Pieri, owner of the Rhode Island Reds, has announced the organization of a new scouting and farm system for his Providence hockey club. Pieri, who has a long-range plan to once again operate the Reds independently of the National Hockey League, revealed that the Providence team has taken another step in this direction by completing a working agreement with the Galt Terriers, one of Canada’s leading senior teams. Coached by Lloyd Roubel, former Reds star, the Galt team last season represented Canada in the World Tournament held in Denver, Colorado, and finished second in the standings to the champion Swedish club. The Terriers are members of the Senior Ontario Hockey Association. It has been Pieri’s dream the past five years to once again organize the Reds as a completely self-sufficient operation, that…

Player of the week
The Boston Bruins Indicated at the outset of the current season that young Murray Oliver was to play a big part in the club’s plans to get out of the NHL cellar. The Bruins haven’t been going at too hot a pace as most everyone knows, but It hasn’t stopped Oliver from fulfilling his part of the deal. Acquired by the Bruins from Detroit midway In the 1960-61 season, Oliver has been a pretty fair hockey player. But this year It appears he will surpass even his best season in the NHL. Oliver this past week went on a seven-point spree, four goals and three assists, as the Bruins picked up a win, and a tie in four games. The 25-year-old centre shot two goals against New York Rangers as the Bruins recorded their…
