Calgary Collapse Mystery Of Early Race
VANCOUVER, B.C.— The mystery team of the Western Hockey League this season has to be the Calgary Stampeders who after a strong second place finish last year, are currently wallowing in last place. The Stamps recently went through a woeful string of 10 straight defeats, then hit the road for three games against the top clubs in the northern division. Their first stop was in Vancouver where the first place Canucks are usually rough on the visitors. The Stamps acted like champions, throttling the Canucks in their own end and taking a 4-1 victory to end their loss streak. Oliver this past week went on a seven-point spree, four goals and three assists, as the Bruins picked up a win, and a tie in four games. The 25-year-old centre shot two goals against New York Rangers as the Bruins recorded their…
EPHL Clubs Pull Away In Interlocking Play
FORT WAYNE, Ind.— It will be January 10 before the International Hockey League resumes its interlocking schedule with the Eastern Professional League. That will give the IHL opportunity to consider what has happened and possibly make some adjustments. For in the initial round of skirmishing the EPHL has had all the better of it. In 23 games the EPHL racked up 17 victories, the IHL five and one game was tied. Hull-Ottawa was the toughest outfit for the IHL clubs, winning six games and tieing one. Kingston won four, Sudbury four and Syracuse two. This included all games. Ironically, the tail end club of the IHL, Port Huron, had done the best work in the interlocking schedule, winning twice, and breaking an EPHL string of five victories. Muskegon also had two and Fort Wayne…
