IHL Prexy Hits Rough Guys In The Pocketbook
OMAHA, Neb.— International Hockey League Commissioner, Frank Gallagher, has fined the Omaha Hockey Club, $250, for tampering with player Mike Kardash. Kardash, who was to have reported to Ft. Wayne, from the Western Hockey League, went to Omaha, instead. Ft. Wayne general manager. Ken Ullyot, disputed the move, noting that Kardash is the property of the Komets. Ullyot felt that he made the original contact. “If Omaha continues to pay player Kardash after January 29,” asserted Galagher, “I will fine the Knights an additional $50 per day, every day that he is on the Omaha pay-roll.” Continuing, the IHL head said, “If Kardash plays in our league, he must play for Ft. Playoff Hopes Dim For Petes, Niagara Falls
ST. CATHARINES, Ont.— The battle for the scoring lead continued as the Ontario Hockey Association junior ‘A’ league headed into the final one-quarter of its 50-game schedule. Pit Martin, brilliant Hamilton Red Wings centre, who has been leading the group for the large part of the season, had his margin narrowed by Montreal Canadiens’ André Boudrias. With 73 points on 36 goals, 37 assists, Martin had a single point advantage over Boudrias who has 28 goals, 44 assists. Martin shares the actual goal scoring leadership with linemate Lowell MacDonald, each with 36 goals, while Boudrias’ 44 assists top that department. FORT WILLIAM, Ont.— The Lakehead Junior clubs got together for a benefit night at the Fort William Gardens for young Johnny McCormick, the Ex-Hurricane junior. Johnny who now attends the University of Minnesota Duluth branch has lost the sight of his left eye. McCormick, who was the leading scorer and one of the outstanding players was injured as the siren sounded in an exhibition game against the Toronto Blues, from the University of Toronto. He caught a stick in his eye. Johnny is in the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota…Warroad Lakers of the Ontario Minnesota Hockey league have tackled a gigantic exhibition series against clubs on there way to the World Championships at Colorado Springs.
