Hockey News And Old Spice Salute Toronto

TORONTO. Ont— This is the golden jubilee season for juvenile hockey in Toronto. It’s the 51st winter for the Toronto Hockey League, which opened for business Dec. 29. 1911, with a game between Waverley Road Baptist Church Young Men’s association and Coxwell Athletic club. Today, it embraces 900 teams and an estimated 13,000 players, to say nothing of affiliated suburban leagues. The secretary schedules 6,000 games annually, exclusive of playoffs. The THL’s juvenile section was established for the 1912-13 term and always has been a key department of this staggeringly huge sports organization. Satisfied In AHL, Willie Would Nix Another Chance In National League

HERSHEY. Pa.— Willie (The Whip) Marshall, fast approaching another milestone in his American Hockey League career, says he wouldn’t be interested in another shot at the National League. The 30-year-old Hershey Bears center, who on Jan, 4 was just six points short of becoming the second greatest scorer in league history. claims it wouldn’t pay him to take another whirl at the major leagues. “I had four chances, all with Toronto,” said Willie, “and the most ice time I ever got in any game was about three minutes. It wouldn’t pay me to try and make the NHL again. “The best I could hope for if I ever got another chance would be about two years in the NHL and it wouldn’t be worth it. I’m happy at Hershey and I like the American…

Seattle Set To Close Deal With Edmonton For McNeill

EDMONTON, Alta.— Last time we consulted Billy McNeill on the subject, he insisted that his active days in the hockey arenas were forever behind him. This had to be as good as gospel that he contemplates unretiring himself. This was the way it was just a year ago, and we are presented with an identical set of circumstances. There could be one variation, however. Keith Allen, Seattle coach, admits to a particular interest in the right winger with a dramatic way of going. “We are near enough to closing a deal for Billy, for us to say that the situation is encouraging, Allen said last week. Two players he would give up for one, the way we get it. Mum’s the word from the Flyer camp, and McNeill is going along with the gag. Billy,…
