Wings Decide To Give Young Last Chance In Majors
DETROIT. Mich.— The Detroit Red Wings have taken Defenseman Howie Young off their ‘doghouse list’ and apparently are giving the firey rearguard another chance. Young was fired from the Wings and waived out of the National Hockey League after both General Manager Jack Adams and Coach Sid. Abel gave up on him for getting too many foolish penalties. Even after he was fired Young continued to workout with the Wings and watched the club’s games from the press box. It’s a hero-to-goat saga. But it’s an old one where the fiery Howie is concerned. Hamilton, New Westminster, Chicoutimi, Rochester, Hershey, Detroit—Howie’s been in hot water in each point because of too many penalties and foolish office antics. It started in Junior A where Hamilton Coach Gerry Brown kicked him off his club for conduct…

Rouyn-Noranda Ais Serving Notice They’re Cup Hunting
—ROUYN, P. Q.— The Rouyn-Noranda Alouettes, who lost their all-Ontario final series to the Galt Terriers last spring, have served notice that they hope to get past the Ontario Hockey Association winners next spring. The AIs have played five games in the Northern Ontario Hockey Association Senior ‘A’ race to date and won each contest handily. In that span, the Quebecers have scored 48 goals with 18 against them for a comfortable lead in the four-team race. Interest in this northwestern Quebec area of Rouyn and Noranda is high and has been since the AIs stepped into senior ranks two years ago. In their first season, the Alouettes averaged better than 1,800 per league game and then boosted their playoff average to 2,400. Last season they dipped a bit at the gate, but…
