Barons Acquire Veteran Ciesla For Bill Dineen

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cleveland Barons, bidding to regain their old American Hockey League supremacy, have indicated they will make several player changes for the 1961-62 season. One of their first moves was to secur. veteran centre Hank Ciesla from Rochester Americans in exchange for right wing Bill Dineen. The Barons also had to give up an undisclosed amount of cash to close the deal. Both players are former National Hockey Leaguers, Ciesla with Rangers and Chicago and Dineen with Detroit and Chicago. Ciesla was the leading point man for the Rochester club last year with 30 goals, 44 assists for 74 points in 70 games. The 26-year-old pivot was the ninth highest scorer in the AHL. He has been with Rochester two years after spending four seasons in the NHL. The 29-year-old Dineen counted…

Make Yanks Strong For World Tourney

NEW YORK, N. Y. Tommy Lockhart, who has been a staunch amateur hockey booster in the United States for more than 20 years, has demanded that the American team that competes in the 1962 World hockey championships be a strong one. Lockhart said that for the first time players from the top two U. S. amateur leagues, the Eastern Hockey League and the International Hockey League, will be recruited to bolster the American team at Colorado Springs, Col., the site of the tournament. “These leagues do not come under the heading of professional even though the players get from $125 to $150 a week,” Lockhart added. “After all, the Canadians have been using former professionals who got back their amateur status. Roubell Returns To Rebuild Galt For World Play

GALT, Ont. Veteran hockey player and coach, Lloyd Roubell, will again direct the Gald Terriers this season, it was announced by club officials. Roubell will be entrusted with the task of raising a strong enough club to bring back the world hockey championship next spring at Colorado Springs, Col. Roubell, who guided Terriers to the Allan Cup last spring, returns for the 1961-62 season along with all of last year’s executive. Roubell, a Kitchener resident is a veteran of 12 years pro experience in the American Hockey League. He has coached Terriers for two years. Dr. Ken Berkeley was returned as president and T. J. (Dubby) Duvall as vice-president.
