Marcel Equals Two Records When Marcel Paille of Springfield registered his seventh shutout with a 5-0 victory over Buffalo on March 4, he tied two records, his own personal mark for a season and that of the Springfield term. Paille had 7 shutouts while playing for Cleveland in 1956-57. Corcoran Plays 500th Game Norm Corcoran of Quebec played the 500th game of his regular season AHL career against Buffalo on March 1, and celebrated the occasion by scoring 4 assists as his team defeated the Bisons 6-3. Gilbert Wins Points Flag By Two Over Jean Ratelle ST. CATHARINES, Ont. — Rod Gilbert, 20-year-old right winger with the pennant-winning Guelph Royals won the two most coveted awards in Ontario junior “A” hockey this season. Now in his fourth and final season with the Royals, and with a bright future virtually assured in the New York Ranger professional organization, Gilbert won both the points scoring championship and the Red Tilson Memorial Trophy as most valuable and gentlemanly player in the seven-team circuit. Gilbert was edged out for the scoring title by one point by Chico Maki of the St. Catharines Teepees last season and he almost suffered the same fate this year. Guelph Graduate Tabbed Another Beliveau By Happy New York Fans NEW YORK. N.Y. — An excitable man in the Madison Square Garden press box couldn’t resist the temptation after rookie Jean Ratelie, intercepted a pass and scored his second goal in two nights for the Rangers. “We’ve got another Beliveau,” the man shouted. Judging by the deafening ovation showered on Ratelle, who displayed superb, near-effortless comportment in his. first two NHL games, one would be tempted to compare the Guelph graduate with “Le Gros Bill.” But memories of Eric Nesterenko. Head One Short Don Head, of Portland, added another shutout to his credit the past week, blanking Seattle Wednesday, March 1, for his seventh whitewash job of the season and one short of the league record held by Marcel Pelletier of Victoria. Head also leads the goalkeepers with a goal against average of 2.71 per game followed by Claude Evans of Vancouver with 2.85. Two ‘Hat Tricks’ Two that tricks’ were turned in the past week. Ron Hutchinson, of Vancouver, scored four goals Friday, March 3, as the Canucks trimmed Portland 5-3. Sunday, March 5, in the Totems 3-2 victory over Vancouver, the veteran Rudy Filion got his first ‘Hat’ of the season scoring all his team’s goals. Rudy also reached the 30 goal mark for the season.
