Rudy Not Ready To Concede Yet

CHICAGO, Ill.— Chicago Black Hawk coach Rudy Pilous is conceding nothing to anybody. Not to the first-place Toronto Maple Leafs and not to the defending champion Montreal Canadiens. The Black Hawks were in third place in the National Hockey League race following games of Feb. 7, 12 points back of Toronto and behind Montreal. The Hawks had 16 games left to play. “We’ve lost a lot of games we should have won,” said Pilous. “But except for that one bad stretch (between Thanksgiving and Christmas) we’ve hung in there. May Make First Aid Part Of Job For OIIA Referees

TORONTO, Ont., The Ontario Hockey association’s junior “A” council has recommended all OHA referees be instructed to learn first aid. The motion was prompted by a suggestion first made in the Toronto Star, following an accident at Toronto’s Ted Reeve arena in which a junior player almost bled to death when his throat was gashed by a skate. While a doctor was present to apply first aid, the incident underlined the importance of having trained medical attendants at all hockey games. The council, governing body of the seven-team OHA junior “A” league, now will present its recommendation at the next meeting of the OHA executive. FORT WILLIAM, Ont. — The sportswriters and broadcasters at the Lakehead have chosen the trophy winners for the 1960-61 season in Junior Hockey. Rick Yeo of the Port Arthur North Stars won the George Budd Trophy. The Jim Russell Trophy for player. Hurricanes Ken Sawicki, was chosen rookie of the year and received the Larry Barts Trophy. The Jim Russell trophy for the most valuable player went to Canadiens Bob McCammon, who edged out Hurricanes Joey Bamford by one vote. McCammon also won the Jack Humphreys award for the best defenceman. Canadians Billy Isbell was the scoring winner with forty two points, the Frank Sargent Trophy goes to him.
