OHA Jr. Prexy Tosses $480 In Fines At Battling Kids
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. — Players in the seven-team Ontario Hockey Association Junior “A” league will, henceforth, think twice before leaving their bench to join in a fight on the ice. This is believed to be the heaviest fine in the history of the Ontario junior “A” circuit. Both coaches, Emile Francis of Guelph and Turk Broda of the Marlboros were hit with $50 fines for permitting their players to leave the bench while Bob Plager of the Royals was forced to dig up $100 for what was considered to be his major part in the brawl. All other players on both teams were fined $10.Plager…
McLellan Exits As NOHA Coach
TIMMINS. Ont. — The Northern Ontario Hockey Association Senior A League is fast becoming the graveyard of coaches. Only one of the four mentors who started the season remains at the helm of this team. The latest to make a change is the Timmins-Schumacher Flyers who have fired playing coach Johnny McLellan. McLellan was relieved of his coaching chores a few days ago but the club has asked him to stay on as a player. After thinking the matter over for a couple of days, the lanky centreman decided that he wanted his release to join Toledo of the International League. The club has refused to grant him his release, at the time of this writing, and he is currently out of hockey. McLellan spent last season as player-manager of the Milwaukee Falcons…
