PRONOVOST$ HARD LUCK When he was doing a very acceptable job in Royals’ goal as replacement for Cherlie Hodge who had been elevated to NHL Canadians, Claude ‘Suitcase Pronovost sliced off the top of two fingers on his left hand. He was helping a friend with a do-it-yourself project. A powerplaner did the slicing. REUNION IN SUDBURY When Gene Atchymichuk was recalled to Edmonton Flyers of ‘he WHl early in December. Indifferent Attitude Gone, All Nester Needed Was Off Ice Job
CHICAGO, III.— The most consistent player on the Chicago Black Hawks this season has been Eric Nesterenko. This is a pleasant departure from past seasons when the Black Hawk management had become accustomed to a Nesterenko who played like a candidate for All-Star right wing honors one game, then had three or four games of strictly mediocre performance. Not so this year. Nesterenko has hustled all the way in every game. He’s taken the odd turn at killing a penalty. And he’s tied with Bobby Hull and Murray Balfour as the top Chicago goal getter over the first third (24 games) of the season. Each had 11 goals during that stretch. Nester scored his first goal of the season in the second game and only once has gone more than two games without a goal.…
Poile Catches ‘Peg Speedster By Using Labossiere As Bait
EDMONTON, Alta.— During the last couple of years, Gordon Labossiere and Ray Brunel proved so eye-catching that major league clubs were moved to shell out 20 grand for them in the annual drafts. Today, however, they are playing their centre ice talents elsewhere. They were the principals in a straight-player swap involving the Edmonton Flyers and Winnipeg Warriors. Major league rights, though, will remain unI changed. Should they ever feel inclined to exercise them, Detroit will have first call on Labossiere while Toronto naturally will keep tabs on how Brunel fares at Edmonton.
