McBride Hopes Kilburn’s Magic Touch Will Rub Off On Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash.— The Spokane Comets’ chief cook and bottle-washer, Roy McBride, did more than delegate some of his duties when he hired on Colin Kilburn at his righthand man. McBride, eager to breathe some of the air in the upper atmosphere after stumbling around in the nether depths since joining the Western League, is hopeful that Kilburn hasn’t used up his magic touch. Some people don’t think so. For instance, over at Vancouver where the defending champion Canucks have been going in fits and starts much on the blame is laid on owner Coley Hall himself. Coley, they charge, did Kilburn a favor by turning him loose so that he could work into a key spot with the Spokane aggregation, but at the same time he may have sold the farm. The Canucks seem to…

St. Mike’s Rate As Top Choice In OHA Junior Flag Tussle

ST. CATHARINES, Ont.— Toronto St. Michael’s Majors who haven’t won an Ontario or Canadian junior hockey championship since 1947, are making serious motions in that direction this year. With the Draper twins, Dave and Bruce re-united with Larry Keenan, the Majors have added scoring punch to their already solid defence. Jerry Cheevers, who had the best goals-against average in Ontario junior “A” hockey last season, is continuing his excellent work and is backed up by solid spare netminder Dave Dryden who played in, and helped win, two of the St. Michael’s games. It could be that Father David Bauer, a former forward with Osbawa Generals in the provincial junior group will continue as coach of the Majors for the duration of the season. On the retirement of Bob Gold-ham from SMC after St. Catharines Teepees…

Hub Police Clamp Down On Debris Tossers In Boston

BOSTON, Mass. — The problem of having debris thrown onto the ice surface which exists in most hockey rinks has been curbed effectively here—by the Boston Police Department. Since a Bruins-Chicago Black Hawks game here in which Glenn Hall, Chicago goalkeeper, was struck by a photography bulb, a special public address announcement has prefaced each period. The announcement warns of penalties of arrest and prosecution for violation of a rule against throwing of objects of any kind. When an 18-year old spectator threw a bottle toward the New York net during a game with the Rangers here November 24, he was arrested by police. The next day the youth was fined $25 in Boston Municipal Court for disturbing a public assembly. Police officials have promised similar treatment for any additional infractions of the…

Player - of - the - Week

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Veteran Larry Wilson of the Buffalo Bisons helped the New Yorkers to their biggest and most surprising win of the season last week as the Bisons toppled the league leading Springfield Indians 9-3 in Buffalo on Sunday night December 4. It was the only game of the week for the Bisons who continue to be Cleveland’s biggest threat for second place honors. The Bisons have 27 points, one less that the second place Barons. But Buffalo has a game in hand over both Cleveland and the league leading Indians. In the game against Springfield Wilson scored a goal and picked up two assists for three points. It ran his season total to 12 goals and 28 assists for 40 points, tops in the American League. Playing on a line with Dick Gamble and…
