Leafs Rookie Pair Lead In Calder Memorial Cup Derby
TORONTO, Ont. — To this point in the NHL schedule, Maple Leafs would appear to have the inside track for the rookie-of-the-year award, together with the $1,000 prize and the Calder Memorial trophy which go with it. After 23 games, Bobby Nevin’s four goals and 11 assists made him top point-scorer among the league’s freshmen. Keon had five goals and seven assists. Other rookies include Reg Fleming at Chicago, Dallas Smith, and Orv Tessier at Boston, Don Johns at New York, Gerry Odrowski, Allan Johnson and Howie Glover with Detroit and Gilles Tremblay at Montreal. Many former Calder winners still are active in the league, beginning with Terry Sawchuk, top rookie of the 1950-51 season. Leafs have Frank Mahovlich (1957-58) and Larry Regan (1956-57). Chicago has Glenn Hall (1955-56), Eddie Litzenberger (1954-55) and…
Patrick Sure Pronovost Can Help Bruins; Ex-Hab Is Happy To Play With McKenney

We can make the playoffs.” Pronovost’s employment of the editorial “we” in referring to the Bruins made an immediate hit with Lynn Patrick, Bruins’ manager. So did the stocky left wing when he said, “I know I will enjoy playing with Don McKenney. He is a fine skater and very good with the puck. I hope I…
Halifax Win Streak Carries Club To Top In Nova Scotia Loop
NEW GLASGOW, NJS.— Halifax Wolverines, who won the Nova Scotia Senior Hockey League championship two years ago but finished a distant second to Amherst Ramblers last winter, are back in winning ways in the circuit and are doing so with only a few lineup changes. Wolves lost their opening game of the 1960-61 campaign to the Ramblers but since then added a few new faces and quickly went on a five game winning skein that carried them into a tie for first place with the defending title-holders. The club got a big boost defensively when they switched to native Reg MacDougall in goal. The Haligonian allowed three goals in his initial start against Brookfield Elks but then came up with back-to-back shutouts at the hands of Windsor Maple Leafs and New Glasgow Rangers.…
