RANGERABLIA: Jack Mc-Cartan’s asking price was said to be in excess of $10,000 … Patrick visited Billy McNeill and Al Rollins in mid-August to get definitive statements about their hockey plans … A Rollins’ okay (which Muzz hoped for last June) would have set in motion a large trade, likely with the Bruins … Muzz sees the Rangers better than the Red Wings and Bruins and about even with Toronto. He figures Montreal and Chicago above the Blues … Alf Pike says he isn’t impressed with Andy Bathgate’s third place finish in the NHL scoring race. “He had a bad year from all angles,” the coach says … Madison Square Garden was given a $300,000 face-lifting during the Summer including a new acoustical ceiling, redecorating throughout the arena and alterations…

Bruins Loon O’Ree To Canadiens

BOSTON— Willie O’Ree, who enjoyed the distinction of being the first Negro hockey player ever to play in the National Hockey League, has been loaned to the Montreal Canadiens by the Boston Bruins. Wren Blair, general manager-coach of the Eastern Professional Hockey League Kingston Frontenacs, made the announcement. Left winger O’Ree played with the last-place EPHL team last year. The 25-year-old forward had a two-game tryout with Boston in the 1957-58 season. Last season he scored 21 goals and had 25 assists with the Frontenacs. He likely will be assigned to the Canadiens’ Hull-Ottawa team in the EPHL.…

Leafs, Bruins Set For Los Angeles Exhibition Games

TORONTO.— Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League will play two pre-season games in Los Angeles, it was disclosed here this past week. Arrangements have been completed for these two teams to fly to Los Angeles for games on Sept. 20 and 22. Los Angeles, incidentally, hopes eventually to get a franchise in the NHL. Leafs, who go to training camp in Peterborough, Ont., on Sept. 7, will play 11 pre-season games in all. Their first game against New York Rangers in Peterborough on Sept. 13.
