TORONTO— Bobby Haggert, 25, was signed officially as head trainer, replacing the retired Tim Daly … Harris and Pulford arrived back from a two-month tour of Europe … Imlach promises he’ll reclaim Ted Hampson whom Rangers grabbed in the June draft, if he gets a chance. Hampson was very impressive in early games last season, then didn’t get much action as the schedule wore on. Bower and Olmstead had been dropping retirement hints everywhere but Imlach was certain both were anxious to play another big-league season … Imlach went to camp with a few men signed but the major contract negotiations still ahead of him … Other minor-leaguers who’ll be shooting for Leaf jobs include Pat Hannigan and Kenny Girard. Defencemen Howie Young and Al MacNeil left the Toronto organization in off-season…

Agar To Replace Laycoe As Coach Of Victoria Club

VICTORIA, B.C.— George Agar, a veteran Western hockey star, has won the coaching job of the Victoria Cougars of the Western Hockey League over several other candidates. Agar, former coach of the Vernon Canadians of the Okanagan Senior Hockey League, was selected by contractor-owner Jim Piggott for the post. Following a gala farewell tendered him by the City of Vernon and his many friends in the Okanagan district, Agar came here to take up his new duties immediately. Agar, who was player-coach of the Canadians for seven years, succeeds Hal Laycoe, who is now coach of the Portland, Ore. Bucka-roos, a new WHL entry. In 1956 Agar led the Canadians to Allan Cup Victory, Canada’s senior amateur hockey championship. Agar has been in professional hockey for 21 years and has played with half a dozen National…

Muzz Picks Rangers Over Wings, Bruins

RANGERABLIA: Jack Mc-Cartan’s asking price was said to be in excess of $10,000 … Patrick visited Billy McNeill and Al Rollins in mid-August to get definitive statements about their hockey plans … A Rollins’ okay (which Muzz hoped for last June) would have set in motion a large trade, likely with the Bruins … Muzz sees the Rangers better than the Red Wings and Bruins and about even with Toronto.
