The Late Lester Patrick Conn Smythe was the man who recruited the original New York Ranger team, though he never coached or managed them. It was felt that a bigger hockey name was needed to head them and the job fell into Lester Patrick’s lap. That was one of those fortunate twists of circumstance, as Lester proved to be the ideal man for New York and Conn put professional hockey over in a big way in Toronto. Wings Sign Rookie Ace From Junior Farm Club
EDMONTON, Alta— High-scoring centre Ed Joyal of Edmonton Oil Kings has been signed by Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League. The announcement was made by Bud Poile, general manager of Edmonton Flyers of the Western League. Poile said Joyal, 20, will try out with the Wings in fail training but is virtually certain to line up with the Flyers next season.…
Glen Skov Likely To Coach Hull-Ottawa Team In EPHL
OTTAWA, Ont.— The Hull-Ottawa Canadiens may have lost a raft of young hockey players in the recent professional hockey draft and inter-league trading, but they at least gained a player-coach in Glen Skov. The 29-year-old Skov, who has performed in the NHL for 10 years with Detroit and Chicago, was purchased from the Black Hawks in the Ab McDonald trade ostensibly to became the coach of the Hull-Ottawa team. While Canadiens’ offiicals would not confirm it, they would neither deny it. Skov will take some of the load off Sam Pollock, who doubled as coach and generalmanager last year with the EPHL club.…
