Goyette Sparks Habs To 5-2 Win And 3-0 Bulge
TORONTO, Ont.— The Canadiens coasted to an unexpectedly easy 5-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs here, taking a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven Stanley Cup final series and virtually stowing the Stanley Cup away for an unprecedented five consecutive seasons. They were never behind in this game. They led 1-0 at the end of the first period on a goal by Don Marshall. They added two more in the second period on markers by Phil Goyette and Henri (Pocket) Richard before Johnny Wilson scored the Leafs’ first goal. Phil Goyette and Maurice (Rocket) Richard tallied again for the Habitants in the final period while Bert Olmstead counted for the Leafs. This was really no contest. The Canadiens won just about as they pleased. The first goal was tainted and the second came…

Mariucci Clarifies Stand Johnny Mariucci, the old Chicago Black Hawk who now coaches the University of Minnesota hockey team, was in Chicago during the Stanley Cup semi-final series between the Canadiens and the Hawks. He was asked if it was true, as had been reported, that he was against hockey scholarships for Canadian boys attending universities in the United States. “That’s not exactly true,” he said. “I’m against the proselyting of Junior-A Canadian players by some universities for the sole purpose of winning tournaments. I love the Canadians. Let them help us play better hockey, but don’t let them shove American boys out of the game. Now we’re just propagating the sport for Junior-A Canadian boys in American colleges.” One coach who has been accused of loading his team with Canadian boys is…

Rangers’ Boss Will Find Him Open For Bids
NEW YORK. N.Y.— The New York Rangers, struggling through the second-division desert, may find an oasis of player talent for themselves on the Montreal Canadiens. Frank Selke, general manager of the Canadiens, told the HOCKEY NEWS that he would “be happy to talk with Murray Patrick” if Patrick contacts him for players. The tenor of Mr. Selke’s conversation firmly indicated that the Rangers could corral a couple of Canadien lesser lights for cash or a trade that would bolster a Montreal farm club or even the Canadiens. If a Ranger-Canadien deal is made, it would be the first time in more than a decade that the clubs engineered a big swap. Montreal helped put the Rangers back into the playoffs in 1947-48 when it sent Buddy O’Connor and Frankie Eddolls to Broadway. Now, unlike then, the…
