Looking backward over the brief sweep of Canadiens to their fifth Stanley Cup … standout of the entire series, to this agent’s mind, was goaler Jacques Plante, the Masked Marvel … mathematically, he didn’t equal some shut-out feats compiled in series of the past, but his performances right down the, line were little, if at ail, short of magnificent … that he handed the Leafs the unwelcome goose-egg in the final game, was of less importance than that, with his unbelievable keenness of eye, he broke up one torridly desperate Leaf attack after another, before a crowd which was begging the Toronto team not merely for a win, which was too much to expect, but at least to get a goal … in the first game in the great Toronto…

Both Three Time Entrants This is the twelfth Presidents Cup playoff series and the third time that both Vancouver and Victoria have reached the finals. In 1951 Victoria won and in 1952 they lost. In 1956 Winnipeg defeated Vancouver and in 1958 the Canucks took four straight from Calgary. Heard In Montreal All the EPHL finals played in Sudbury were heard in Montreal over the new metropolitan radio station CFOX. The spieler was Joe Spence of Sudbury’s outlet, CHNO. A Montreal crew picked by CFOX has been working all finals and semi-finals in which Royals’ engaged with Al Trottier of the Forum publicity staff as chief commentator. Plaque For Tessier In recognition of his pro hockey league scoring records (59 goals and 126 points) collected with the Frontenacs in the EPHL this season, Orval Tessier was recently presented with a plaque by Kingston, Ont., mayor W.T. Mills. A fete is planed for Tessier by the home-town citizens in Cornwall. Ont., later this month. St. Paul Grabs Early Toehold On IHL Crown Against Komets

FT. WAYNE, Ind.— The St. Paul Saints lead the Ft. Wayne Komets in the International Hockey League’s best of seven final playoff series for the Joseph Turner Memorial Trophy, two games to one, but… Freddie Shero’s Saints took the first two encounters in St. Paul, 5-3 and 3-0, but when the set moved over to Ft. Wayne, the Komets bombarded Glenn Ramsay with eight goals. This could be a demoralizing factor the remainder of the series. Johnny Bailey, St. Paul’s hard-shooting left winger continues to lead players throughout the playoffs in three departments—goals (8), points (13) and penalty minutes (42) and is tied with teammate Elliott Chorley for winning goals with three.
