‘No Pep Up Pills As Long As I’m GM,’ Says GM Selke
MONTREAL, Que.—General Manager Frank Selke of the Montreal Canadiens terms ridiculous Toronto stories that Goaler Jacques Plante has been taking pep up pills before a game. Selke said the stories were ‘sensational’ and said they “made a mountain out of a molehill.” The Montreal goaler was quoated in the stories as saying he had taken pills prior to a couple of games to help him overcome fatigue or to help him up a bit. Selke said that two years ago, when Plante was suffering from asthma, the goalie took pills on advice of the club’s physicians. Failure To Call Play Twice In A Game Ires Hub GM
BOSTON, Mass.— The failure of National Hockey League referees to invoke the penalty shot as punishement for specific fouls to attacking players has been a trade topic for years. The time has come, maintains Manager Lynn Patrick of the Boston Bruins, to remedy the situation. Patrick, one of the game’s leading students of playing rule, has two prospective remedies. One is to enforce the existing rule. The other is to drop the penalty shot for a penalty less stringent but painful enough to be effective. At mid-schedule this season only one penalty shot had been awarded in 105 major league games, that to the Bruins in a game here with the Chicago Black Hawks. Rule 82 (b) is explicit in defining conditions which call for a penalty shot as the penalty for fouling. The rule: “When a player…
