Bathgate Blasts Ranger Fables The most popular legend in hockey this season is that the New York Rangers finally ran their whip-swinging coach, Phil Watson, out of the league. Part two of the same story is that the players helped to send goalie Gump Worsley back to the minors because they figured he was costing them a goal or two per game. Reds See Red Trying To Scratch Bears 3-2 Jinx

PROVIDENCE, R.I.— When the Hershey Bears play the R. I. Reds, the defending Calder Cup champs always bring along their pet mascot, “the jinx”, for the game. In five games thus far, the Bears have taken Providence four times by identical 3-2 scores, two in overtime, and two in the dying minutes of the game. The Reds have managed only one win, that one coming after a long up hill struggle which looked for a while like another 3-2 victory for Hershey. When Providence hockey fans speak of the champion Bears, they also speak of the “jinx”. The “jinx”, although sounding like the poor man’s excuse, is quite the contrary.
