Herd Eyes Hawks’ Teepee For Aid After Bad Start

BUFFALO, N.Y.— The failure of the Buffalo Bisons, defending American League champions, to make a start comparable to last year’s isn’t causing any great worry in the local front office. Whereas the Bisons won their first seven in ‘58-’59, they dropped the first three games they played this season. Bison General Manager Fred Hunt looks for the team “to straighten itself out once we get the help we’re expecting momentarily from Chicago.” This “help”, Coach Dit Clapper hopes, will come in the form of a center. “We need a center badly,” Clapper commented after the Herd lost its home opener to the Hershey Bears, and their old nemises Bobby Perreault, 3-0. “It’s been my plan to use Bill Dineen on right wing and not center. But with things the way they are, I’ve been forced to…

May Recommend A Year Suspension As A Punishment

HERSHEY, Pa— In the wake of the infamous stick swinging fracas between the Hershey Bears and Cleveland Barons. it’s expected Richard Canning, American League president, will issue a get tough policy. The order probably will call for either season or life suspensions to the next stick swinging combatants. Following the brutal, blood-letting battle here Oct. 7, Canning meted out fines totaling $700 to five skaters, including three from Hershey. In addition, he heaped on game suspensions. Fined $100 each and suspended for the games of Oct. 10 and 11 were Hershey’s Ron Hurst, Hec LaLande and Larry Zeidel. Fined $200 each and suspended for six games (Oct. 9 through 18) were Cleveland’s Aldo Guidolin and Bill Shvetz. It was the severest package penalty meted out in league history. There is no doubt it was the worst…
