CAMPBELL FORESEES PAY TV

TORONTO, Ont.— Pay television may be closer than you think, warns president Clarence Campbell of the National Hockey League. His advice to sports fans is to relax and enjoy the spectacles on TV while they can get it for nothing. Campbell, in an address to the Toronto Metropolitan Home Builders’ Association, said increasing production costs in the televising of sport might well lead to subscription viewing in the near future. “Closed-circuit television may be the final answer to the problem of costs which neither the sponsor nor the Canadian taxpayer is willing to pay,” he said. The amount the sponsors are able to pay was reaching its limit. He scored 40 goals and picked up 48 assists far 88 total points, which made him a valuable man for the Broadway Blueshirts, though they failed to make the playoffs. Back last January we asked Muzz Patrick, the Rangers’ general manager, if he would trade Bathgate even-up to the Detroit Red Wings for Gordie Howe. Royals, Quebec Aces Make Pitch for fairy Into American League

MONTREAL, Que.— The Montreal Royals are officially in the hunt for an American Hockey League berth next season. Frank Carlin, general manager of the Quebec Hockey League team, confirmed that Royals had forwarded a formal letter of application to president Richard F. Canning of the AHL. Royals thus become the second QHL team to cast their eyes in the direction of the top-level minor hockey league in recent weeks. The Quebec Aces took the first step when they announced they had applied to the AHL for entry for the 1959-60 campaign.
