Home Ice Record The record of a Boston Bruins club for winning games on their home ice in a single season is held by the 1929-30 edition of the Bruins. That season they won 23 games on the home ice. They came closect to equalling that mark in 1953-54 when they won 22 games on Boston Cardens, ice. Most Road Victories The Boston Bruins of 1929-30 hold the record for a Boston club with the most victories in a season on foreign ice. That season the Bruins won 15 games on the road while tying one. Meetings Now Fashionable The tight race in the National Hockey League among the five clubs below the Canadiens is producing some interesting sidelights. For example, Gordie Howe called a meeting of the Detroit Red Wings in New York a few weeks ago for the first time since he was appointed captain of the team. A sports writer travelling with the team learned that the players had all convened in Howe’s room. He called the big right-winger on the phone and asked him what was going on. “I was just looking for a fourth for bridge,” cracked Howe. In a torrid race like the current one, you just “can’t lose a single game” as the players say. But they lose plenty and that’s why the meetings are called by the players themselves. MONTREAL, Que.— King Clancy, who was here recently with the Toronto Maple Leafs, thinks that if the Leafs are going to make the playoffs they’ll have to beat out Detroit and Boston. “The Chicago Black Hawks are up there in second place and they seem to like if so much they’re going to stay there,”he said. “The Rangers are a pretty good hockey team and I think they’ll make it all right. I don’t know what’s the matter with Detroit. They’ve got a pretty good guy in the nets (Sawchuk) and they’ve got good players like Howe, Delvecchio, Pronovost and Kelly. I like that Lunde.
