Duff Gets Rough, Must Moke Playoffs For Bonus Payoff
PETERBOROUGH. Ont.— Dick Duff has been given the needle, but the rest of the Maple Leaf hockey players are feeling the jabs. Since coach Billy Reay delivered a “Get Rough, Duff” edict, in only slightly gentler terms, the capable little left winger has been throwing his weight around as if he had more than 160 pounds of it. Ending two years of almost saintly conduct, Dick has recovered the dead-end stature that made him look like another Ted Lindsay and potential all-star in his freshman season. Bob Baun, Jim Morrison, and anyone else who has had the misfortune to play opposite him in training camp scrimmages here, can testify to this. “I’m really not mad at anybody.” Dick shrugs when confronted with charges of assault. “But I’ve been told I’ll help the team more if…

Canucks, Flyers Get Call For WHL Flags

At this writing it appears that the power in the…

The Chicago Black Hawks and Toronto’s Maple Leafs launched their exhibition schedules with a training camp “home and home” series that should go down in history as the roughest and wildest exhibition set ever played. An amazing 60 penalties, 20 of them majors, were called. Brawl after brawl pushed the business of playing hockey into the background and coaches tie chance to accomplish what they want to do most.—judge the play of the candidates for their teams this season as accurately as possible. Through it…

History Made—Three Champs Set To Play In Eastern OHA
CORNWALL, Ont.— For the first time in Canadian senior hockey history, three championship teams are set to go to the post in one league. Whitby Dunlops, the world champs, Belleville MacFarlands, the Allan Cup winners, and the Memorial Cup champion Ottawa-Hull Canadiens have all entered the Eastern Division of the Senior OHA for another year. The three champions along with Pembroke Lumber Kings, Kingston Merchants and Cornwall Chevies give the league its strongest alignment yet. The Belleville Macs play a full schedule before leaving in February for the World Tournament in Prague. However, they will not take part in the playoffs.
