Louisville Registers Upset By Beating Out Cincinnati In IHL Semi-Final Round
End Of The Line For Perennial Hockey Champions CINCINNATI, Ohio—Many observers said it could not have happened, but it did. The Cincinnati Mohawks, International Hockey League defending champions, were dethroned by a hustling band of Louisville Rebels in the best-of-five series, three games to one. In other playoff series, Indianapolis took Fort Wayne by the same margin, three games to one. Louisville went one step further by besting Indianapolis in the first game in the best-of-seven series, 5-4, in a double overtime. Defenseman Fiori Goegan scored the winner at 3.48 of the second overtime. Louisville led, 4-3 going into the third period, but a goal by Ken Willey tied the game and sent it into overtime. The Cincinnati-Louisville series opened in Cincinnati. Sunday, March 16 and to the surprise of everyone, the Rebels walked off…
Dukes Win Way Into OHA Finals With Cub Pack
GUELPH, Ont— Toronto Marlboroe and Hamilton Tiger-Cubs clash in this season’s OITA Junior A final. It’s an old story for Marlboros who finished fourth during the regular campaign and reached the final round by eliminating St. Catharines in the semi-finals. Marlboros win over St. Catharines put the Dukes, coached by former Toronto goaling great Turk Broda, one up in their annual playoff feud over the past five seasons. The two clubs have met twice in the final round and three times in the semi-finals. The Teepees won the OHA and went on to the Memorial Cup in 1954 and Marlies returned the compliment in a similar vein the following year. In 1956, Marlies eliminated Teepees in the semi-finals and went on to their second successive Memorial Cup. Last year St. Kitts ousted Dukes in the…

Horvath’s Exciting Goal Scoring Run Foreseen In ‘Hub’
BOSTON, Mass.— The brilliant scoring record of Bronco Horvath of the Bruins this season has been an eye-opener to the hockey world in general, but around here it’s hard now to find anyone who seems surprised. Horvath is the 28-year old center who scored 30 goals in his first year with the Bruins. The main reasons why his record is an eye-opener are (a) that the wiry chan has been playing professional hockey since 1951 and (b) he belonged to four other National League teams without impressing any before the Bruins purchased him last summer. Taking advantage of the opportunity to play regularly and equipped with suitable wings in Johnny Bucyk and Vic Stasiuk Bronco has demonstrated emphatically that he is a master scorer. His own camp is filled with fellows who can say in…
