WINNIPEG, Man.— While four coast clubs of the Western Hockey League continued to get fat with their hat-box rinks and their hour-long commutations, four prairie clubs bowed to the high cost of living and the respected brain of rank Boucher. At the instigation of Mons, Boucher, the seasoned pilot of the Saskatoon-St. Paul Regals, prairie division clubs went back to 12-man hockey, thus lopping three names off the roster and trimming the budget accordingly. It has yet to be determined if the decrease in pay cheques will offset the heavy mileage count between Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg and St. Paul. but at any rate the four prairie franchises are giving Boucher’s plan trial at least until president Al Leader presides over league meeting in Calgary January 9. Wee ‘Pocket’ Rockets As Habs Straighten Out And Fly Right

MONTREAL, Que.— Six months ago it would have been hard to conceive of the Montreal Canadiens defeating the Detroit Red Wings 6-0 while Maurice Richard and Jean Beliveau watched from the sidelines. It would have been just as hard conceiving or them winning many games, let alone leading the league while their best goal scorers were recuperating from long injuries. But they have been doing that, and the elder Richard and Big Jean are wondering if they are really necessary on this powerful machine that can close a gap in its ranks with the speed of a jet. Canadiens fans found three players picking up most of the slack left by the absence of Richard and Beliveau. Offensively they are lienri Richard. ‘Rockets’ wee brother and the league’s leading scorer. Dickie Moore, who…
