Boucher Wins.. Prairie Teams Cut To 12 Men

WINNIPEG, Man.— While four coast clubs of the Western Hockey League continued to get fat with their hat-box rinks and their hour-long commutations, four prairie clubs bowed to the high cost of living and the respected brain of rank Boucher. At the instigation of Mons, Boucher, the seasoned pilot of the Saskatoon-St. Paul Regals, prairie division clubs went back to 12-man hockey, thus lopping three names off the roster and trimming the budget accordingly. It has yet to be determined if the decrease in pay cheques will offset the heavy mileage count between Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg and St. Paul. but at any rate the four prairie franchises are giving Boucher’s plan trial at least until president Al Leader presides over league meeting in Calgary January 9. HERSHEY, Pa.— The pleasure of victory was obvious as the beads of perspiration on the bony features of Frank Mathers. “It’s great to be a winner, just great,” Mathers grinned, reechoing the words that had been shouted repeatedly by his Hershey players as they showered after a recent lopsided victory. The cautious air of the coaching professional almost instantaneously caught up with the Bears’ player-coach. “I hope we’re still saying that at the end of the season,” he said before taking a drag on his cigarette.
