Player-of-the-week

NEW YORK, N.Y,-Someone once said Hie only things sure in this world is death and taxes. Now they’ve added “death and taxes and Bill Gadsby for all-stardom.” Last week Gadsby led the Rangers to three wins and tie in four games as the Broadway Blueshirts closed the gap on Canadiens to four points. Offensively and defensively he was standout. In one game, the 4-2 victory over the Habs in Montreal on Saturday. December 21st, Marcel Faille stopped 44 shots from the Canadien hotshots and Gadsby must have stopped another 15 himself. When it was over Bill was voted the number one star of the game, with Montreal’s newspapermen and broadcasters calling it one of the greatest displays they’ve ever seen rearguard play. WINNIPEG. Man.— So what’s the story??? No sooner has Guyle Fielder pulled on his old familiar jersey with Seattle Americans he is makingthreatening gestures to the Western League’s leading scorers. Warriors Show Experts So Guyle’s ability to tear the minors apart and his inability to make it stick in the big-top…

Trade Rumors Help Snap Amerks Back Into Line

ROCHESTER, N. Y.— Amid rumors of trades, the Rochester Americains finally snapped out of their slump — and they did it with a loud bang. Absolutely inept at home, the Amerks picked on the red-hot Cleveland Barons to snap their slump — beating the Barons by a 3-1 margin on Dec, 8. That game broke the Barons’ string at nine straight American Hockey League contests without a setback. And, as if that weren’t enough, the Americans followed it up by dropping the Springfield Indians in an overtime tussle here five nights later. The fact that Rochester managed to top Springfield wasn’t surprising. But the overtime victory was. It marked the first time in the history of the Rochester club that the Amerks had won an overtime game on their home ice. Bundle Of Joy Rochester had a…

Gump To Boston? All Beans, Says Phil To Bruins

NEW YORK, N.Y.— The “feud” among Phil Watson, the Boston Bruins, their management and writers has left the quotation mark stages. Now they’re fussing for real. Watson, who never had any great love for the Beantown and its hockey team, is steamed over HOCKEY NEWS story (Dec. 14) alleging he formented plot to demoralize the Bruins. It charged that Phil circulated rumor that the Bruins were attempting to acquire Lorne Worsley as replacement for Goalie Don Simmons. According to the story it was Watson’s plan to undermine the Bruins something he’d do at the drop of hat and particularly their netminder, whose big league aoiltty has been questioned by writers in every NHL city Did Watson really spread the rumor white scouting games in Providence and Springfield? To find the answer Phil was given the…
