Sawchu Bombarded At Boston
BOSTON, Mass. — Only a year ago Terry Sawchuk was the hockey idol of New England as the goal-tender for the Boston Bruins. Sawchuk, greatest of his era, was the star of an inspired, aggressive team. Highest paid goal-tender in hockey history, he was drawing the biggest salary ever paid by the Bruins. As a box office lure here he was rated the greatest since Eddie Shore of two decades earlier. Sawchuk’s status was lofty, his future brilliant. Then last January the gaunt man from Winnipeg left the Bruins suddenly, announcing his intention of retiring from hockey. “I’m fed up,” he said, and he went into seclusion in his home in Michigan. Habs Send Sutherland To Cincinnati
CINCINNATI, O. — Cincinnati Mohawk officials announced today that veteran winger Bill Sutherland has been assigned to the Mohawks by the Montreal Canadiens via Shawinigan Falls of the Quebec Hockey League. This will be “Suds” third year as a Mohawk. In 58 games last campaign Sutherland scored 27 goals and assisted on 26 others for 53 points. To make room for Sutherland, coach Billy Goold regretfully announced the option of rookie left winger Brian Anderson to the Cornwall Chevies of the Eastern Ontario Hockey League. Goold said, “Brian is an excellent hockey player, but I think the flu bug got the best of him in our training camp and it has left him rather weak.” The 23-year-old Sutherland will work all left wing on the third line with Ray Brunel at center and Barry…
